Democratic system needs robust identification of its electorate. 

If you cant prove that you are a citizen ( there are plethora of documents that can start the process of identification) then you will considered as undocumented immigrants and you wont be able to participate in election process

Onus is on the citizen to provide documents, not the other way around

A person couldn't prove Indian citizenship as they didn't have any related documents - okay 👍 got it .

It marginalises lakhs of valid voters to prove their citizenship through documents that the labour class doesn’t own or very difficult to obtain. 

Announcing such a move with just 4 week window is a sure way to invalidate eligible voters. Proving citizenship has never been the necessity for EC in India. At the direction of BJP now they are trying to act as a NRC. 

Special Intensive Revision is plain de-enfranchisement done by the ruling govt.

There are massive discrepancies in Maharashtra’s Voter Rolls. The ruling regime is pretty much rigging State Elections, that’s how unpopular they are.

Let me direct you to the provisions that highlight why the EC decision is illegal. 

(1) ECI cannot be the arbiter of citizenship. 

Section 19 of the The Representation of the People Act 1950  explains what is an “ordinary resident”

(2) ECI providing a qualifying date of 01/07/2025 contravenes be Section 21 of RPA 

The date should 01/01/2025

This has been allowed by the Courts, it will eventually come under scrutiny. Unfortunately our courts these days allow malice to occur and then “chastise” the wrongdoing later as they chastised the BJP-Shinde Sena in Maharashtra after they illegally split a political party, when the next election was only two months away.

Our institutions are crumbling, and regardless of which party rules, they are deeply in crisis. I am not Pro or Against any party. I am simply stating the law.

The Aadhar roleout was done by BJP and they started al9t of controversial rules such as making it compulsory to link aadhar to phone number (which was overturned)

And now all of a sudden Aadhar can't be used for elections? Doesn't that seem bonkers?

Also, the main concern would be the prevention of disenfranchment of certain electoral base...how do you expect ppl to get added to the polls using new documentation when elections are 4 months away?
What's to stop BJP from ensuring only their voters are able to vote?

Aadhaar saturation probably means that excess people were counted most likely due to movement of migrant workers when the data was collected.

Here is the UIDAI having a list from 31st December 2020 on their website with multiple states showing over 100% saturation:

It is the current BJP that pushed for widespread Aadhar adoption. If there are flaws then it is their fault. Why should a citizen be denied their right vote cause of govt. incompetence.
People who support this move have a very servile mindset. The same BJP that wants to keep questioning the legitimacy of citizens wants to have a unified election because they are afraid of the questioning themselves!

The problem which that department will face is that whatever criteria they will decide for the verification the illegal will be first to full fill it and many "human rights activists" will provide any possible resource to them. 

And many "underprivileged" actual citizens will not be able to fulfill the criteria. 

Not to mention there will be political parties which will crave for illegal's votes and give somewhat similar statements like "they have the first right on the resource of the nation". USA is also facing problems due to this particular con of democracies.

Sure kicking the "undesirables" out of the country would be good. But you know in some cities you may be part of the "undesirable". Maybe some states will link it to speaking the local language, maybe some will link it to the right caste/religion. Any law which reverses the burden of proof i.e. citizen need to prove they are citizens (instead of agency proving you are an alien) will be heavily mis-used. Just look at the Assam NRC experience.

You do know that ECI does infact conduct Roll Revision periodically, right? And they have majorly completed this revision last month. This Special Revision didn't make sense cause they were asked to ignore multiple documents that Biharis had and asked for stuff like Birth certificate, previous election ECI number that no one had.

How did ECI find out that they are foreigners? By looking at their names? 

Or, did they submit foreign countries' passport with the form? 

Or, anyone who could not provide documents are labelled as foreigners (poor illiterate landless people are most likely to not have any of the 11 documents)? 

Or, is it just making news to create fear, to help the *you know who* to win elections?

As a resident of West Bengal, I have seen first hand how these electoral rolls work. 

My late grandfather died 5years back, he's still in the electoral rolls. 
A lot of my friends had been unable to vote in the local elections (they were able to freely vote in LS and VidhanSabha though) because someone had already cast their vote for them. 


I even know a Bangladeshi (Hindu Brahmin) who came to Kolkata some 10years back on a medical visa. Recently, he bought a land in our area because he has all Indian documents including passport and voter card. 


My uncle has 2 voter cards in different booths because when he was a teenager, he used to play football. So back then he made fake birth certificates to conceal his age and later made two separate document trails to get more ration. 



I can even provide voter data which clearly shows voter inflation in the last 20 years. 
For example my Ward in Kolkata Municipal Corporation has 70 thousand voters. Across the road, it's a minority dominated area and a different ward. The voter count in that ward has increased to 2 lakhs. 
When next delimitation happens, it's going to be very difficult. 




Personally I believe a thorough verification is required across India to determine citizenship because there are too many loopholes in the current system. 

Then again I sympathize with the poor rural folks who are getting overwhelmed by all these issues.

The opposition is portraying this as bad because they stand to lose the illegal kangladeshi and rohingya voters that they illegally added to the voters list. 

Also this a routine procedure that was also done in 2003. People are not understanding the potential of technology in easing the voter verification. In one alone around 10 million voters were verified, all the potential 70-80 million voters can be verified comfortably in 30 days time set aside for it. 

Democracy loses it meaning if illegals and non-citizens vote in election. After operation Sindoor, when pakistanis were kicked out we saw so many testimonials of pak citizens living in India claiming that they voted in elections, were giving interviews for govt jobs etc. 

Such level of voter list clean up should be done in all the states, after Bihar giving priority to states that will have state assembly elections.

I have absolutely no reason to believe that there exist certain _"internal documents"_ pertaining to certain political parties which may or may not implicate those political parties in certain alleged election fraud.

This is constitutional right and responsibility of ECI to keep updating electoral rolls at regular intervals. This keeps happening but this time opposition is ranting too much because in last few years many fake voters have been added. Obviously, ECI don't know whom votes for which party
